Our Volunteers
If you have a hobby or special interest, and want to donate of your time, please contact us to initiate a volunteer project.
Volunteers expand the services we can offer our children. Volunteers are people like you.
We introduce you to some of our devoted volunteers:
Stuart and Hadassa Palmer
Stuart and Hadassa Palmer, residents of Haifa, are devoted volunteers. Always looking for interesting ways to raise funds to cover the costs of our various projects, they organize an annual fundraising walk.
1st Annual Walk March 2005 - Kinneret
2nd Annual Walk March 2006 Nachal Alexander
3rd Annual Walk March 2007 Ganei Yehoshua
4th Annual Walk May 2008 Haifa
5th Annual Walk May 2009 - Ramat Hanadiv
6th Annual Walk October 2010 - Ramat Hanadiv and Shuni
In September '08 Stuart and Hadassa organized a charity concert at the Japanese Museum in Haifa.
Dr. Ronald Jacobowitz, renowned American pianist (and mathematician!) entertained the audience with his piano recital.
Zehava Litovsky
By combining her love of nature and vast general knowledge, together with her youthful energy, Zehava is the perfect guide. She has planned the routes and has led all 5 Annual Walks. Zehava is the guide on all trips taken with children at the Haifa Center, be it the children in the kindergarten programs or the LD program.
In addition, every year, the staff participates in an end of year trip together with Zehava. Zehava visits the Haifa Center regularly and takes an active interest in all activities.
Elsa Mervin used her love for animals to create a Pet Corner that is the basis of our Animal Assisted Therapy program. Even during the war in the summer of 2006, Elsa made special trips to the Center to make sure that the animals were cared for. Elsa grooms and feeds the animals regularly, and makes sure their supply of food and water never runs out. She has taken responsibility to make regular visits to the veterinary specialist for check ups and vaccinations. In addition, Elsa functions as a house mother, watering plants and generally ensuring the smooth running of the Center.
Yehuda Romm, an American Rabbi who spends part of the year in Haifa, volunteers at the Haifa Center. His two hobbies photography and gardening - find expression at the Haifa Center. Using his expertise in photography, he teaches children how to get to know their surroundings through the lens of a camera. He runs photography courses for youngsters, including immigrant Ethiopian pupils receiving treatment here at our center. Each child receives a disposable camera and after learning how to use it, they take pictures which are then edited and put into an album to be proudly taken home to their families. Photography offers children the opportunity for self expression and to experience success.
Yehuda has also sponsored Tu B'Shvat events in which children have decorated flowerpots and planted different plants in them to give as gifts. He has involved the children in planting flowers and plants in the grounds surrounding the Center, teaching the children how to water and tend to them. The children have the enjoyment of seeing something they planted grow and make the world around them beautiful. Thanks also to Diane Romm for her help on the website.
Laya Zryl who worked for many years at the Haifa Center as Director of the Resource Development and Public Relations Department and is now a pensioner, donates generously of her time. She provides professional counseling and helps with translating and writing.
Shula Rotenshtreich volunteered at the Special-ed Kindergarten and helped organize the Charity Concert.
Batya Segal volunteered at the Special-ed Kindergarten and helped organize the Charity Concert.
Sari Manola and Ivet Shulz painted the Language Intensive Kindergarten.
Stav Rakedzon volunteers three times a week with the children in the Special ed Kindergarten, showing them much love and attention. Stav, who finished her army service and will begin her University studies in October, was sent to us by the Haifa Council of Voluntarism.
Giora Yahel was sent to us by Chen Ifergan of Ru'ach Tovah Organisation, and helped renovate the kindergarten.
