Bridging Educational and Cultural Gaps- Ethiopian Immigrant Pupils at Chi.L.D.
Helping Ethiopians integrate into Israeli society has been a major priority in recent years. With the influx of immigrants from Ethiopia and with many Ethiopian youngsters living in the local area, The Haifa Center for Chi.L.D. has inaugurated a new project to help those with learning difficulties.
Knowing of our expertise and successful experience in the field of learning difficulties and emotional therapies, the administration of the local Yavneh Elementary School, with an enrollment of Ethiopian pupils, approached us asking us to provide intensive didactic help for pupils who are unable to cope with their studies due to lack of knowledge of the Hebrew language, and social and cultural gaps. We agreed to rise to the challenge. Intensive support for Ethiopian pupils can pave the way to helping them become successful and productive members of Israeli society. At present 30 pupils are receiving didactic and expressive therapies to enhance their learning, social and behavioral skills. A photography course, run by our dedicated volunteer Yehuda Romm, was a great success.
